Originally recorded in 1982 at The Music Place in Homewood, Alabama, "Love Goes To Your Head" captures The Mortals at their peak—blending sharp hooks, driving guitars, and effortless pop sensibility. Fronted by Don Tinsley, the band carved a space in the Southeastern college rock scene with a sound that bridged the energy of power pop and the cool detachment of new wave.
Despite its undeniable charm, "Love Goes To Your Head" was once turned down by The Everly Brothers, a bittersweet near-miss that only underscores its timeless appeal. The track was first released on Zounds, a cassette-only album from 1991, and has now been remastered for its long-overdue standalone release via Earth Libraries.
With Bird Crain (bass), Rick Kurtz (guitar), Bryan Owings (drums), and Lolly Lee (backup vocals) rounding out the lineup, the song remains a testament to The Mortals’ knack for punchy, melodic songwriting. Fans of power pop legends and new wave pioneers alike will find "Love Goes To Your Head" an essential lost gem, finally getting the spotlight it deserves.
